The Vanger brothers from Moddergat were still wearing knitted fisherman's sweaters in the years after the war (around 1948), as can be seen in an old photo from that time where the brothers are depicted. It is remarkable that the brothers still wore hand-knitted sweaters at a time when more and more ready-made sweaters were being worn. What stands out about the Vanger brothers sweater is the button closure on the shoulder.

This fisherman's sweater is made from Wadden wool: wool from Northeast Friesland, from the sea dike and from terp mounds. The sweaters have a characteristic and recognizable pattern from Wierum.
